Did you know Russian President Vladimir Putin presented America with a beautiful sculpture to commemorate the fallen towers of New York City,on the 5th anniversary of 9/11 ?

Tear Drop “A Gift From the People of Russia to the USA”

Editor’s Note : The Tear Drop Memorial, is a 10 story sculpture designed by one of Russia’s leading sculptors, Zurab Tsereteli, that was given to the United States as an official gift from the Russian government as a memorial to the victims of 9/11. — Funded by private donations, the work of art called “The Tear Drop Memorial”, consists of a 100 foot tall tower, with a huge open crack running down the center.

Hanging from the crack is a massive “teardrop” designed to drip water.

The base of the monument is surrounded by a marble wall with the names of the 3000 victims engraved in alphabetical order.911tear5

The anti-Russia controlled US media gives the beautiful memorial, dedicated by Putin, a total silent treatment. The monument is barely known, even among  local residents of Bayonne!

President Putin’s image on the banner wall has been inconspicuously absent in the controlled media coverage that it has received.

(Wiki) Reaction to the monument has been mixed. It was listed as one of the The World’s Ugliest Statues by Foreign Policy magazine,[8] while The New Yorker said from far away it looked like “a giant tea biscuit.” [6] However reactions from the general public include “Pretty impressive,” said one person and another called it a “breathtakingly beautiful creation”. Read more controversy here.

Learning of the monuments existence by chance, JOHN CRAVEN, describes his Teardrop quest during his visit to New York.

On the trail of New York’s lost Teardrop: John Craven tracks down a forgotten monument to the 9/11 victims

About 50 million people visit New York every year and more than eight million live there but no one seems to have heard of The Teardrop…which is odd because it is a 100ft tall, 175-ton memorial to those who died on the city’s blackest day. Learning of its existence by chance, I tried to discover more from locals at Ground Zero, where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre stood until September 11, 2001, and was met with blank expressions.

The one person who did know was an official guide but he said: ‘I bet 99 per cent of New Yorkers haven’t a clue where it is.’

Our search began at the World Trade Centre station, where a train took us to Exchange Place in New Jersey. From then on, instructions were vague – we had to catch a light-railway tram for eight stops along the Jersey shoreline to 34th Street in Bayonne and ask around.

Eventually someone walked by and kindly offered to call a local taxi firm on his mobile. He’d never heard of The Teardrop but luckily the taxi driver had. He drove us two miles across a wasteland which was once an army base until we came to an isolated quay. And there, high on a mound, stood the monument – a massive bronze-clad block with a great gash down the middle into which is suspended a 40ft, four-ton shiny nickel teardrop.

In the far distance were the skyscrapers of Manhattan. Around the base of The Teardrop were the names of all those who died on 9/11 – including 26 Russians.

Touching: John Craven poses next to The Teardrop (left) in New York. The massive bronze-clad block features a great gash down the middle into which is suspended a 40ft, four-ton nickel teardrop Credit: Daily Mail, UK.

In fact the monument was a gift – an expression of grief – from the people of Russia to the US and officially named ‘To the struggle against world terrorism’.

Vladimir Putin was there when construction began and Bill Clinton attended the dedication ceremony in 2006.

Since then, it has been forgotten.

‘Nobody ever comes here,’ said the taxi driver. Indeed, we were the only visitors.

Surely it hadn’t been snubbed because it was from an old enemy?

I did some research and found that its designer, Zurab Tsereteli – one of Russia’s leading sculptors – went to Ground Zero after the attack. He was told boats and ferries had shuttled survivors across to New Jersey, where many of the victims had lived.911tear6

Learning that, he wanted his statue to be on the remote waterfront there with Manhattan as the backdrop. So the explanation for the anonymity of this most touching tribute is probably no more sinister than: out of sight, out of mind – and that needs remedying.

My Teardrop quest happened during my first visit to the Big Apple since 9/11 and the city seemed a less aggressive place, though still full of new surprises. We walked through one of them, the High Line, which meanders for a mile on the West side. It was once an overhead freight line and now it’s full of flower beds and trees.

We stayed at the Soho Grand on West Broadway. It reflects the way the neighbourhood has been transformed from gritty industrial to tasteful, upmarket chic.

Our room had a splendid view across to the Empire State and my favourite skyscraper, the Chrysler Building. Until, that is, the last morning when it was blanked out by an unexpected blizzard.

That’s the thing about New York – it never lets you down with its surprises. The Teardrop was the major one this time.

As I stood next to this enigmatic landmark I was struck by the thought that when passengers sail into Manhattan the first monument they now pass is not the Statue of Liberty but The Teardrop. And none of them will know what it is for.

“A Gift From the People of Russia to the USA”

Why weren’t we told about Tear Drop?

  1. Tsereteli's artwork is stunningly beautiful. When the monument was dedicated, there wasn't much said about the work in US media. It's Russian you see and not amerikan and therefore, so what. Amerika is more than a mite myopic. Well and warmongering and stupid.

Tsereteli's work is commentary on our world being under assault by that ever so annoying 'global war of terror' motif. Tsereteli's artistry should have been placed at ground zero and not the phallic obscentiy that sits there at present.

  2. My best guess as to why no one has heard of this monument because Jews havn't yet figured out how they can make any money from it.

    • In reply to Tony –
America DID erect a monument to the millions of Iraqis killed in the Bushco War of Naked Genocide on Iraq Vol. II. It’s called ‘One World Freedom Trade Tower’. A monument that is architectural obscene AND morally repugnant. After all, this is America and no one does obscene and moral repugnance better than Americans.

  3. First off, who cares about this nonsense, other than the kind of people who watch parades and the Stupor Bowl halftime show? And since the entire "official" conspiracy theory about 9/11 is all lies, why should anybody believe that 3,000 people died in the Towers? For Christ's sake, you can't tell me that Putin actually believes the BS out of the criminals in DC.

  4. It's an ugly thing.
    But it doesn't really matter.
Their differences are just for show, you know, to fool the stupid "peasants."
After, both countries about to have inspection aircrafts in each othr's air space.
I don't trust either of them.

  5. I think the US does not want and can not tolerate anything good that comes out of countries the US government does not like, Russia, China, Iran, Syria, Cuba and many more.

    • I concur.

Despite some misgivings about Russia in the realm of human rights, Putin is a pretty smooth operator. Too bad so many Americans lack the wit to get it.

  6. This monument is very Russian modern.  Not especially beautiful, but intriguing, and spectacular in its own way.

  7. I am proud to be an American, I love my country and even with the battlings between democrats and republicans it is special to be an American.  About two years ago I took and interest in WWII  and I recently I went to Volgograd, Russia.  There I went to the Museam and I shedded tears of some of the beautiful true stories and monuments that they made.    The meaning of one monument means a lot to a mother who lost a child in the war.  Today, I decided to look at monuments and came across this beautiful tear monument that Russia gave us, I was sadden in my heart for two reasons; The true meaning behind this monument and many American including myself never knew about this.  It was nice of Russia creating this Statue, recognizing the suffering of U.S.

  8. I think that it is unfortunate that citizens in other countries, judge our citizens from actions that our elected officials do or fail to do globally. I didn't vote for this president, I think his decision making on policies is both arrogant and immature. I understand why many foreigners hate our country and the people, thats all they see are our elected officials with a smug attitude and reckless behavior. We need to clean our own closet before we will be respected on a level playing field with other countries.  For the foreigners that bash all Americans, you need to wake up, we all don't egree with the decision making of our elected officials. I don't judge all muslums because of one suicide bomber… think ablout it

    • Mike D — I just stumbled on this site and it looks great. I’ll be back. Even though comments here were made in 2014, hope mine hits your box. As a South African, with a number of friends in the States and after much research, finally finding the best alternative online sites, bringing the truth I seek, wherever I go, enjoying essays, articles etc, its the comments, which interest me most. How do ordinary people, just like me feel about what’s happening in their own countries and globally?
That brings me to your last few lines about foreigners bashing Americans. Yes. undoubtedly many still do, but far less than before, as thank God, in the last year or so, many who bashed you guys, have had eyes opened as to who TPTB are that virtually rule the whole planet, owning and controlling everything, especially the western media. I loved what Sam said too, that he’s proud to be an American! — he’s right — none of us ordinary guys are responsible for the pathetic leaders we have, leaders whom we trusted, who betrayed us — leaders who are doing it all over the world, not only in the US. But take it from whom it comes, many people commenting are unfortunately not clear thinking, common sense people — many plain trash. But today ever more of us feel deeply for the plight of Americans and support them to the hilt. Still, the brainwashed will always be with us, as well as today’s paid trolls. When people bash Americans, I don’t let it slip, but rather enlighten them to the state of affairs and yes, mostly others will chip in and support me — only way to change hearts and minds is to improve understanding, so that from bad, comes good. Please hug America for me — We spent 3 months traveling all over your lovely country and enjoyed every moment and although it was in the nineties, we still remember it like yesterday. You’re an open hearted lot, very much like South Africans… Do you perhaps check out Sputniknews and RT, 21st Century Wire, Paul Craig Roberts, Global Research, New Eastern Outlook (NEO), Russian Insider, Washington’s Blog, SOTT, Information Clearing House (ICH) etc? Sure you do many of them — Anyway good luck buddy or pal, as we say here! Things will come right — Truth takes time but it will triumph! In the end it always does.

  9. When one is given a gift like this one must be gracious and say: Thank you, it was very kind of you.

Regardless if we like the style of a gift or not.  This gift was given to America with goodwill intention. Therefore, we must be gracious and kind enough to accept it with our sincerest thanks to President Valdimir Putin, Russia and the Russian people.

    Thank you Mr. Vladimir Putin.

    Thank you Russia.

    Kindest Regards,

  10. Many thanks to the artist and contributors of the monument. It is beyond my comprehension as o why this item never made it as a major news item. News outets should be showing this every anniversary of 9/11.

  11. Glad I finally found out that this monument exists. Shocked that very few Americans know about this monument from Russia!!! Kudos to Russia and Thank you for your remembrances. Shame on American government for keeping such a warm gesture SECRET. If we had done this for Russia or another country,it would be WELL publicized

  12. The statue should instead of a tear drop have had a bomb exploding. If it did, still it would have been hidden out of sight. But if the statue had a blooded turban–it would be right in front of NY city hall.

What really would put America in it’s place if Russia accuses with evidence that Sept 11 2001 was solely done by the Washington Terrorists. If Russia had pulled off such a sinister plot in Moscow and 28 Americans died, USA JewsNews would never rest until Russia was destroyed. The use of Zionist or Neocons is getting boring.

  13. I grew up about 15 miles from where the monument ended up and I can tell you this……… While Jews have infiltrated every city bureaucracy and power structure, many if not most East-coasters can’t stand the bastards. Their tyranny is catching up with them.

When an honest guy (Goy) gets a job in a City government, the Jews make life a living Hell until the poor guy (Goy) leaves in complete frustration. And of course, these are NOT the people the Jews love to publicize in our media.

This works for a while, but eventually the Jews piss off so many people that they have no-one left to fool. Word on the street is very different from the TV version.

I think we’re almost there, folks.

  14. I didn’t know of its existence till now, June 2014.

Nice gesture, and thank you. But it’s too bad Mr. Putin goes alone with the fairytale of 19 young Arabs.

  15. I too like the sculpture even if its a bit on the modernist side. What’s also been commonly forgotten were overtures offering help that Iran made right after 9/11- Bushco was having none of that.

I’m also intrigued at the idea of Russia popping off about the true nature of 9/11. If they did make such noise, there would be a colossal stink out of the US and Russia would never be forgiven. Is Putin maybe a mite too polite? There have supposedly been words to the effect that he buys the official story- or is that just what he maintains publicly so as to make nice?

  16. “Funded by private donations” – Surely “The World Zionists did it”… again and again and again … someone always to blame …..

    • Whew, I thought I was the only one who thought that is what it looked like. I asked only my mother if she thought that is what it looked like, because I thought other people would think I had a dirty mind. I live near it and have often thought it was in a remote place, because other places looked how hideous it is.

    • Dear Debbie, you and your blog are riding on the coattails of an albeit under reported memorial event, and for that perhaps you deserve kudos, but that does not absolve you of your cynical, dishonest, if not hysterical perception that the memorial is somehow being deliberately ignored and dissed by “The Zionist Controlled Media”, which is as silly, preposterous and inappropriate as me echoing for affect that “Debbie Does Dallas”. Though the memorial does have slightly gaudy proportions, it is thoroughly righteous and deserves full recognition, and I regret and apologize for my purely sarcastic off handed remark that it was “hideous and Bad Art”, an excuse you could use for your equally inappropriate and irresponsible comments about “The Zionist Controlled Media”.

      • Thanks for taking the time to comment de Niro.
Those who haven’t noticed yet are either Blind or Brainwashed. The “entangled alliance” America is saddled with is, for the forseeable future, a fact that cannot be reversed: AIPAC and its myriad Zio-tentacles are simply too well-organized, focused, lavishly funded, and vicious — in the thinktanks; academe; the MSM (with all to many PEPs in the supposed oppositional alternative press); the awful Congress; the hydra-headed monster salted throughout the executive — DoD, State, Treasury, Justice, NSC, the Oval Office, you name it; and more and more the judiciary (how soon will it be before > 50 percent of SCOTUS is Jewish–and how many Jewish judges are there at the state, district, circuit, federal et al levels, all ready to “interpret” the law in Zionism’s favor whenever it is challenged?).

  17. Rufus Peterson, I was wondering the same thing about Putin. I think that he, like Trump for example, knows when to hold his cards, like a straight faced poker player holding a very, very good hand of cards. I bet that Putin, with his enormous KGB apparatus, has plenty of stinky information about quite a number of shot-callers, or perhaps former shot-callers, and who knows to what extent that is being used behind the scenes!

  18. Debbie, why Zionist always the culprit ? why not the queen of england and the dying empire of UK along with its london bankers not responsible ? its easy to blame the jews as through out history like Russia now , but the truth is there much more to it, and there are much more sinister people in power who happen to play off the jews aswell while employing their talents.. So please do some research, i for one have worked on wall street among the biggest firms to learn that the majority of the finanacial industry here in the US and international banks are owned or directly influenced by the british with some sprinkle of a jew here and there because of their long known wits in math. As far as this monument, just shows how foolish and cunning our leaders are and how right Putin was in that anything Russia wanted to participate in was constantly treated like a child and shunned, no wonder Russias policy shifted and EU fruits and vegetables crushed

  19. There are a lot of monuments to 9/11, and really no one knows about any but the official footprint pools, which are pretty amazing. There is also a stunning and simple memorial in Liberty State Park in Jersey City. I find it more beautiful for the fact that it could not stand anywhere else, the gap in the skyline is part of it. It is composed of two large thick walls that at once from the distance replace the missing towers in the skyline as you approach, and as you get nearer become two sides of a tunnel that frames the hole in the NY skyline where once they stood. The inside of the walls of that monument are also lined with the names of the 9/11 WTC victims. Nobody outside the area knows it’s there either. I don’t think it’s the “Zionist controlled media” so much as an actual lack of interest in the public’s part. We will remember that day forever. But we’ve seen enough, heard enough, and we all just want to live our lives in peace.

  20. hmmm a broken up tower with a huge drop of something that looks an awful lot like oil hanging from it…

Yeah i really wonder what the sculptor could’ve meant when he made this 😛

  21. I’d like to thank the folks in Russia who sent it. I’m sure everyone appreciated the thought. I don’t think this will ever be as well known as the Statue of Liberty but it’s the sentiment that counts.

    • We do a bit better than monuments:

How much money does the US give to other countries?
While the effectiveness of foreign aid remains up for debate, the United States recently has continued to pump around $50 billion in aid to other countries each year. In terms of the absolute value of aid given, the United States is the world’s top donor by far.

      • Indeed! The Economic Hitmen of the world…

        Excerpts from the Book:

“This is what we EHMS, (economic hitmen), do best: we build a global empire. we are an elite group of men and women who utilize international financial organizations to foment conditions that make other nations subservient to the corporatocracy running our biggest corporations, our government and our banks. Like our counterparts in the mafia, EHMS provide favors. These take the form of loans to develop infrastructure, electric generating plants, highways, ports, airports, or industrial parks. a condition of such loans is that engineering and construction companies from our own country must build all these projects. in essence, most of the money never leaves the United States; it is simply transferred from banking offices in Washington to engineering offices in New York, Houston or San Francisco.”

“Despite the fact that the money is returned almost immediately to corporations who are members of the corporatocracy (the creditor), the recipient country is required to pay it all back, principle plus interest. If an EHM is completely successful, the loans are so large that the debtor is forced to default on its payments after a few years. When this happens, then like the mafia, we demand our own pound of flesh. This often includes one or more of the following: control over United Nations votes, the installation of military bases, or access to precious resources such as oil or the panama canal. of course, the debtor still owes us the money and another country is added to our global empire.

  22. Very interesting article until I got to “the Zionist-controlled media,” at which point I lost all interest and respect for the author and the publication. But thanks for letting us know where to go to see it. I regret that it gets little publicity; it’s beautiful, and a touching gift.

    • Thanks for taking the time to comment David Perry.

  23. It’s sad that you are ignorant David Perry.

There are the real Jews, (the good ones) and then there are the fake ones, the ones who Jesus warned about who aren’t really Jews at all. Research and you’ll find out. They have ruined this nation.

  24. I think it’s nice. Thank you Russia for the gift.

We can never have too many reminders or memorials for this tragic event.

It is both beautiful and appropriate. Respect and appreciation from People in the US.

  25. I think the American Government should be ashamed of themselves for allowing their media to have practically no mention of this beautiful memorial, from the people of Russia.
I understand everyone taste in architecture varies greatly and the there will be some people who do not like the memorial for what ever their personal reasons may be. Also past tensions and feelings run deep, however, I think the American people should accept this great gift in the way the artist and Russian people dedicated it to them.
As a sad but heartfelt, beautiful memory of those lost and a poignant memory of the horror terrorism spawns.
Further, I don’t think it would do the American Government and people any harm to fly at the very least a small Russian flag in the respect for a country, once regarded as an enemy, who have now shown the hand of friendship.
Come on America. Drop the hidden political agenda and man up.
Let your whole country know of this wonderful memorial.
Your a democratic nation, let your people decide if they like it or not.

  26. So…. where is it? You don’t give a street a dress or gps coordinates. You say it’s in NY yet you imply Bayonne. You’re only dwelling on the obscurity, not promoting visitation to the monument.

  27. I have a beloved family member whose name is listed on the base of this memorial. To me it is beautiful because everything that symbolizes my grief and the grief of so many others is incredibly meaningful to me. Thank you for this article.

  28. Please don’t lump all Americans into one big category. I, for one, appreciate the many wonderful contributions that ANY countries have made to this world. If you must hate, hate individuals rather than people groups as a whole.

  29. Hm ..

It was made exactly as author wanted and it was placed exactly where he want it to be.

    So, what is the problem?

People who want to visit it – have no problem to do that.

People who want to watch it from a boat – can do the same.

I remember some info about the gift in US media. At least I knew it exist somewhere.

New York full of surprises and hidden treasures. People who want to find it – can find it.

What the point to look for conspiracy here ?

  30. I think this monument is Breathtakingly Beautiful. Everything you haters think or write is absolutely ridiculous. I think this statue should have tours every day, not just remembered only on the anniversary. Everyone has to put politics ahead of anything else. The compassion, the grief instilled in making this monument from artists from Russia makes me want to cry. A gift from the artists, a gift from Vladimir Putin, a gift from the Russians, why can’t you keep Politics out of it? Why can’t you keep from bringing up a different race? Last time I checked I am an American & I am not a racists like you people that brought it up. Why do you think you have a right to call it a female body part? When given a gift no matter how small or how large you say thank you. Were you haters never taught that when a gift is given to you, or the entire US, you say THANK YOU! This shows me you are nothing but pathetic so called Americans! How would everyone of you that made a bad comment on this monument feel if one of your family members died in 9-11, & see that family member of yours engraved in this statue? I bet you would be grateful then. We should have been told about this gracious gift, what did you haters give? Of course you gave nothing. I feel and this is my opinion, if you do not like this gracious gift, you aren’t an American so get the HELL out of the United States! Now that I know about this I am going to share and have everyone I know share and also read your negative comments. I have family members that are teachers, you bet I will let them know about this Monument. I think the schools there should take field trips to this Beautiful Monument at least they are teachers, and the children or the kids in High School will learn more about this, and be more informed of what this statute means, unlike you haters you JUDGE. I am sickened by the negative comments. All of you haters maybe you should go to this monument and learn something and the first thing you need to learn is Compassion, but myself I doubt it, as I think you are incapable of it!

  31. Who needs gifts from ppl who only care to criticise America, take the crocodile tears back to Russia for all I care. Talking about people dying and terrorism, how about your concern with the terrorism that Assad has bestowed on his own people which Russia supports and feeds guns to. Get a mirror people!

  32. Americans please look at WTC closer. USA officals are dirty. Its no wonder they are disliked in so many countries. If the Government are willing to attack their own, they are going to attack anyone and everyone. US People trust their goverment and media. Wake up Americans they are controlling you. Do your research yourself. Dont trust and believe what they want you to.
America is so corrupt. Just watch, it is slowly crumbling. People are losing faith.
