Crashes of Convenience: Michael Hastings

Crashes of Convenience: Michael Hastings

Editor's Note : We have something parallel to what happened to Danny Jowenko: Dutch demolition expert Danny Jowenko died in a one-sided car crash,a frontal collision with a tree, in the village of Serooskerke,The Netherlands.WTC7 according to Danny Jowenko was absolutely brought down by a controlled demolition.

Hastings died at age 33,  in a single-vehicle automobile crash with a Mercedes C250 Coupé in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles in the early morning of June 18, 2013. A witness to the crash said that he seemed to be driving at the car's maximum speed before the car fishtailed and crashed into a palm tree. There are claims that his death could have been due to foul play; the Los Angeles Police Department has said there are no signs of foul play.

The Corbett Report : Hastings was that rarest of breeds: a mainstream reporter who wasn't afraid to rail against the system, kick back against the establishment, and bite the hand that feeds him. On the morning of June 18, 2013, he died in a fiery car crash. But now details are emerging that he was on the verge of breaking an important new story about the CIA, and believed he was being investigated by the FBI. Now even a former counter-terrorism czar is admitting Hastings' car may have been cyber-hijacked.

Hours before his death, Hastings believed he was being investigated by the FBI. He emailed his colleagues warning that the FBI might interview them, and he also discussed this with a WikiLeaks lawyer just hours before his death. The FBI released a statement denying that Hastings was being investigated.

Hastings' friend and confidant SSgt. Joe Biggs disclosed a macabre twist in the award-winning journalist's death in a suspicious single-car accident. According to SSgt. Biggs, "Michael Hastings' body was returned to Vermont in an urn." He further alleged, "Family members did not want Michael's body cremated."

This revelation provides another wrinkle in the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) handling of a case they labeled "no foul play" only hours after the writer's death.

Nevertheless LA County assistant corner, Ed Winter, said it took two days to identify the burned-beyond recognition body of Hastings. Officials also confirmed that an autopsy has been performed, but the cause of death is still pending. Unfortunately the family will have to wait for cause of death answers as LAPD media spokesperson Lieutenant Andrew Neiman indicated, "It will take several weeks to get the toxicology results."

SSgt. Biggs also emphatically stated that liquor was not a factor in the accident, as Hastings hadn't consumed alcoholic beverages in five years.

So why is the LAPD delaying the reports?

It was SSgt. Biggs who released the following chilling email to members of the media;

"Subject: FBI Investigation, re: NSA -Hey (redacted names) — the Feds are interviewing my "close friends and associates." Perhaps if the authorities arrive "BuzzFeed GQ," er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news gathering practices or related journalism issues. Also: I'm onto a big story, and need to go off the rada[r] for a bit. All the best, and hope to see you all soon. Michael"

The receipt of this email from Hastings tipped the scales for SSgt. Biggs. "This wasn't an accident and I will continue to investigate his death."

Scene of the Crash:

As an investigative journalist, Hastings saw his fair share of threats. One particular passage in Hastings book: The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan, revealed that a former McChrystal staff member made a death threat. "We'll hunt you down and kill you if we don't like what you write," the unnamed staffer said. Hastings coolly retorted: "Well, I get death threats like that about once a year, so no worries."

Despite the LAPD's categorization of the Hasting fatal accident as a "no (evidence of) foul play," LAPD continues to ignore FOIA (CPRA in Calif.) requests made by San Diego 6 News for the police report, 9/11 call, autopsy, bomb squad and toxicology reports, or make the Mercedes available for inspection which only fuels conjecture. 7/12/13 Mercedes says their cars do not blow up…..100% guaranteed…….

Details of Reporter Hastings' Death Remain Elusive:

Hastings Sent Email Stating 'Need to Go off the Radar' Hours Before Death:

Vanity Fair : In his elegant, honest, and poignant remembrance of the fearless Hastings, BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith writes:

Hastings reported their unvarnished comments in "The Runaway General," an explosive and award-winning Rolling Stone article that unleashed a global media storm and led President Obama to order McChrystal back to Washington, where he fired the general on the spot.
He knew that there are certain truths that nobody has an interest in speaking, ones that will make both your subjects and their enemies uncomfortable. They’re stories that don’t get told because nobody in power has much of an interest in telling them — the story, for instance, of how a president is getting rolled by his generals . . .

In a way, Michael was born too late: He wrote with the sort of commitment of the generation of reporters shaped by the government’s lies about Vietnam, not by the triumphalism of the 1990s or the reflexive patriotism of the years after 9/11. He was surer than most of us that power is, presumptively, not to be trusted. Writers of his courage and talent are so rare, and he was taken way too soon. There are few like him. We will miss him terribly.

  1. The only  comment one can make in relation to this article is that one cannot be surprised at anything that happens in the US in 2013. This is very sad indeed. You can be certain of a criminal act. This is America, 2013.  A sad state of affairs.

We see embedded journalists writing what they are told to write or lose their credentials; the quiet acceptance of the fact that the activities in Abu Ghraib are quite normal; Guantanamo still not closed or the reasons for it not resolved;  torture  accepted as a regular occurance, still occuring today, of that you can be certain; lack of respect for both the President's private army, the CIA and the once respected FBI; surveillance of anything and everything; and to top it off, a country controlled by a pariah state in the Middle East Israel, with a Congress and Senate bribed into submission on every subject, openly, without public concern due to public apathy.

Who really cares except the bloggers?   So what has this created? A dysfunctional country with a feeble President, respected by no one and giving the big finger to freedom and democracy wherever it doesn't suit his or AIPAC's purpose, such a list being too long to print here.

So the likes of Michael Hastings, being an honest and intrepid journalist, should be remembered by those who like to read the truth who can still remember what the US values were  once BC- (before corruption) while hoping against all the daily cover ups that it may one day, return to what it used to be.   Very unlikely now. It has passed the point of no return. Just watch the Palestine "Peace" circus, coming to a theatre near you (heavily modified, of course)

Finally, if all the people aware of the 9/11 disgrace, the real truth, that is,  can remain quiet for this long, it is unlikely that the anyone in the LAPD will ever blow the whistle on Michael's tragic death.

    RIP Michael.

  2. If the body was burned beyond recognition, and the family received back only ashes, then how do we know Hastings was even in the car? A dummy, a car under remote control, a crash. Hastings might never have been there.
I have wanted to know how Hastings happened to be driving a new Mercedes. Any friends heard him bragging about his new car?

  3. "They" operate with total impunity now, egged on by an endless series of preposterous events that no watchful/thoughtful person could ever buy. And they always get away with it. The "death" of Bin Laden, the silliness surrounding Benghazi, the action movie of Boston, and so on. These items simply go unchallenged, as anyone who tries with an available/sizeable mouthpiece is at immediate risk.

So two tasks can often be accomplished at once- propagandizing the public, and intimidating those-in-the know into silence. If they are not silent then, there is these horrible little accidents, you see, where there is silencing of one party, which leads to further intimidation of those who might speak. Thus the ante gets upped. The message is "We are running the show and don't try to stop us" Or, as in the case of Snowden, we get a stranded whistleblower who now is rumored to be a plant.  Snowden, a BC (before corruption) kinda guy. The rewards are few for those who seek to expose the unredacted truth. The biggest Italian Mafia is always there, watching. Technology, which they've always sold to the limit to the unsuspecting has proven to further their interests. A tarbaby from which no extraction is possible. What hope is there other than to hope they've now given themselves enough rope (or chains, with weak links) and can only provide their own vulnerabilty? There is the people below, but there might also be some unseen forces. Then we have to hope for their mutable benevolence.

  4. Those who have power through family and money hire those who desire power to do their bidding.  Nonetheless these "movers and shakers" are still just blind puny people no matter how puffed up their egos.  Kind of like ticks – swelled up with the blood of others, but still just ticks. There never was a time that our "dear leaders" weren't ego maniacs and killers.

Freedom, equality, justice, democracy, meritocracy, community service and love are always unrealized ideals. Words that the servants of the elites use in  their propaganda to obsure their  masters rigging of the political and economic system. Those successful at exposing the evil of the ruling class have always wound up in prison, tortured and dead.

It seems extremely unlikely that Michael Hastings would commit suicide by driving his car at maximum speed into a tree right as he was onto a "big story", but it's doubtful that we will ever get to the truth. Only if there is a judgment after death will the price of the misdeeds of the powerful be paid, unless of course God is an evil egotist like them.

The hope of true justice being done post death explains the continued attraction of the Jesus story, since Jesus mixes plenty of forgiveness for the "little people" along with punishment for the rich and selfish rulers.  And, like Hastings it was this truth telling that got Jesus killed.

    repeated for emphasis.
    John 18, 37-:39:

    Jesus Before Pilate
37Pilate therefore said to him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice. 38Pilate said to him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I find in him no fault at all. 39But you have a custom, that I should release to you one at the passover: will you therefore that I release to you the King of the Jews?

  6. It could not have been as described by "loudlabs" andI have read several suggestions. Michael was NOT a drinker or mad driver, his 2013 Mercedes would NOT burst into flames on impact (if he was stupid enough to drive into a tree) and the arrival at 4.30am of video teams, "helpers", witnesses well before ambulane or police allowed plenty of "evildoing".
